Patrick Evans-Hylton - All folks eat, few truly dine. In this class we'll explore the essence of eating, and learn how to express your thoughts on the experience in a clear, concise and compelling way. We'll cover a number of food writing styles including profiling people, places and things, developing and writing/editing recipes including introductions, food essays, memoirs and more. An emphasis will be put on covering every angle, and painting a complete word picture through detail and imagery. Your new-found knowledge can be used for (1) journals and blogs, (2) online critique sites like Yelp and Urbanspoon, (3) short magazine and newspaper pieces and (4) parts of a larger food writing project. Leading the class will be Patrick Evans-Hylton, a Johnson & Wales-trained chef, award-winning food journalist and founder of the Mid-Atlantic Food Writer's Symposium. He is a culinary advisor to the commonwealth of Virginia and a James Beard Foundation media awards judge. Patrick's work has appeared in Saveur magazine and Virginia Wine Lover magazine, among others. He has written more than a half-dozen books, including Dishing Up Virginia
